I did not trim the caulk afterwards, as far as size for the top and bottom; honestly I just guessed based on the size of the speakers I planned on using them with.

As far as anything different... No, I'm pretty happy with them. I may still add carpet spikes though.

Thanks for the questions. :)

Thanks for checking this out. They are pretty similar to the Stubby design that's out there. Of course, basic speaker stands all do share a lot of the same design elements.

Gee, this looks identical to the well-known TNT Stubby design - from the rope caulk to the all-thread assembly.

If I wasn't using my MCM 40-630 ($4.99 at Goodwill) to dirty up a synth sound, I'd make this mod in a heartbeat. Nice writeup and photos.

Thanks for the post Bill, just what I'm looking for.

A couple of questions, if you don't mind.

1. Did/could you trim the exposed caulk on the bottom, once assembled?

2. How did you calculate the appropriate size of the top & bottom plates for your speakers?

3. Are there any design changes you would make in retrospect?

Looking forward to your response. Cheers.

I did a similar job on a $20 phono amp made by Behringer (PP400) and removed a nasty hums at 70 hz and 140 hz. The external battery rig (8 AA batteries) delivers cleaner sound than the AC -> DC adapter supplied with the unit.

Dude, great review! I also have the Kittycaster and loaded it with a DiMarzio Superdistortion. The stock one is crap... now it really screams. The only downside is that the SD is creme-colored, so now Kitty has some kind of cumshot on her face... ah well.
Your review was really helpful while replacing the pickup, way easier than the manual. Even though I've got an Ibanez RG2570, the Kitty is my favourite guitar now....
